Commercial Lighting

Commercial lighting for each space.

We coordinate lighting intent, fitting selection and installation around each site's activities, architecture and operating needs.

Start with the environment

Good lighting begins before a fitting is selected.

We first define what people need to see, how the space should feel and which practical conditions will shape the solution.

Activity

Identify the work, customer journey and visual tasks within each area.

Architecture

Review ceiling conditions, materials, displays, furniture and important surfaces.

Atmosphere

Define the intended character without compromising practical visibility.

Operation

Consider hours, cleaning, maintenance access, switching and future changes.

Build the lighting plan in purposeful layers.

Not every area needs the same fitting or light distribution. The final mix is confirmed against the layout, brief and verified product information.

Architectural cutaway showing ambient, task, accent and vertical lighting in a commercial interior
01

Ambient light

Provides the general visual foundation for circulation and everyday use.

02

Task light

Supports counters, desks, preparation areas and other defined activities.

03

Accent light

Directs attention toward merchandise, artwork, finishes or architectural features.

04

Vertical light

Improves the perception of walls, shelving, displays and spatial boundaries.

05

Decorative light

Adds a visible design element where it supports the interior concept.

Design decisions

Balance visual effect with day-to-day use.

Visibility and comfort

Consider the viewing task, contrast and potential glare from the expected positions of users.

Colour appearance

Review colour temperature and colour quality against materials, merchandise, food and the intended atmosphere.

Beam and placement

Coordinate beam direction, spacing and mounting positions with the room geometry.

Dimming and scenes

Define whether different operating periods need separate light levels or scenes.

Maintenance

Consider access, replacement approach and the practical availability of selected components.

Project requirements

Confirm electrical, emergency-lighting and other compliance responsibilities with the appointed project parties.

Lighting approaches shaped for different commercial settings.

01

Restaurants and bars

Coordinate table focus, circulation, feature surfaces and operating scenes.

02

Retail stores

Support product visibility, brand presentation, fitting rooms and adaptable displays.

03

Offices

Plan work areas, meeting rooms, circulation and shared facilities around use.

04

Hotels

Coordinate arrival, guest, dining and back-of-house environments with the design team.

05

Property common areas

Review entrances, corridors, lift lobbies and shared facilities.

06

Warehouses

Consider work zones, aisles, mounting conditions and maintenance access.

07

Car parks

Review circulation, pedestrian areas, ramps, equipment rooms and control requirements.

08

Showrooms

Balance product presentation, customer movement and flexible display layouts.

Connect lighting intent with the people delivering the space.

The agreed direction needs to work with the interior, electrical installation, ceiling, controls and programme. Go-Between coordinates the lighting scope with the relevant project parties.

01

Brief

Confirm the space, users, activities, visual priorities and budget direction.

02

Layout

Review plans, reflected ceiling information, furniture and important surfaces.

03

Selection

Assess suitable fitting types and verified product information for the agreed intent.

04

Coordination

Resolve positions, power, control intent, installation access and team responsibilities.

05

Review

Support agreed site questions, adjustments and handover requirements.

Before a proposal

A site assessment checks the details that drawings may not show.

01

Room use, operating hours and priority visual tasks

02

Existing fittings, switching, circuits and accessible power information

03

Ceiling type, mounting positions, heights and access

04

Finishes, displays, furniture and reflective surfaces

05

Daylight, glazing and surrounding light conditions

06

Maintenance access and replacement constraints

07

Contractor, designer, landlord and property requirements

08

Programme, work restrictions and required approval process

Make the proposal clear about decisions and responsibilities.

The exact output depends on the project stage and information available. The proposal will identify the agreed scope and any items requiring confirmation.

The agreed proposal may cover

  • Lighting intent by area
  • Recommended fitting categories or selected products
  • Indicative locations and control intent
  • Coordination notes for relevant project parties

Confirmed for each project

  • Product model and current supplier data
  • Electrical and installation requirements
  • Compliance and professional responsibilities
  • Testing, adjustment and support scope

No light level, colour quality, service life, warranty, efficiency or compliance claim is assumed until the selected product and project requirements are verified.

A practical route from assessment to project support.

01

Site Assessment

Review the environment, brief, constraints and available project information.

02

Solution Proposal

Set out the recommended lighting direction, assumptions and items to confirm.

03

Installation Coordination

Coordinate the approved scope with the relevant contractor, designer and supplier.

04

Project Support

Support agreed site questions, review and handover requirements.

Need sensing, scheduling or scene control as well?

Commercial lighting and smart lighting control can be planned together when the operating brief calls for a coordinated system.

Questions to resolve before selecting fittings.

Can Go-Between work with our interior designer or contractor?

Yes. We can coordinate the agreed lighting direction with appointed designers, contractors, installers, suppliers and property teams. Responsibilities will be stated for the project.

Can you review an existing lighting installation?

Yes. A site assessment can review the current fittings, switching, visible conditions, user concerns and practical access before an upgrade direction is proposed.

Do all projects require a complete replacement?

No. The suitable approach depends on the existing installation, condition, required visual result, compatibility and project constraints. Retained and replaced elements are confirmed after review.

Can lighting design and smart controls be planned together?

Yes. Lighting intent, zoning, sensing, scenes and operating schedules can be coordinated together. The control scope and compatible products are confirmed separately.

Will you specify exact light levels and product performance online?

No. Required light levels, fitting performance and other technical values depend on the project, selected products and verified calculations or documents. They are not estimated on this page.

What should we prepare for the first discussion?

Share the site type, location, layout or photographs if available, intended use, current problem, target timing and the project parties already involved.
